Although I wouldn’t call us fancy people, I would call us fortunate. Fortunate enough anyway… It’s all relative I suppose. We are fortunate enough to be living in a 6 bedroom house with 5 public rooms (not counting the kitchen) but not fancy enough to have thick, lush curtain on any of the window - well, any curtains on any windows actually. We are fortunate enough to have the house fully renovated but not fancy enough to have it fully redecorated. We are fortunate enough to always have enough to eat and clothes to wear but not fancy enough to mind if it’s a bowl of cereal for dinner and/or that we are *way* more Gap than Gucci. We are fortunate enough to have the house fully funished but not too fancy to furnish most of it from Ikea.
Oh yes, six bedrooms… Ikea… yes, ok, back on track. For those of you trying to keep up, you know we’re moving back to Scotland in about 7 weeks (*omgomgomgomg* I have so much to do in 7 weeks) and I have been a very busy girl throwing things away.... lots of things away… I happily discovered that Tuesday was our ‘junk’ day. Once a month we are allowed to place what seems like an unrestricted number of mediium to large items on the curb to be collected by the garbage men the next morning. But what happens is, you put your ‘unwanteds’ out on the sidewalk and then a amazing number of people come driving by and take what they want. “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure” and all that. It removes all need for renting a skip.
So anyway, Monday, Len and I put all the ‘unwanteds’ out on the curb and I sat on the front step waiting for the curb-crawlers to come have a look through it all. I had very desireable junk this month.... Then one man seemed to be taking alot of the toys/pushchairs/strollers etc so I asked him if I could interest him in a few beds.
To cut an exceeding long story a little shorter… The guy has 5 kids and he was able to take (and will be able to use) 2 single beds, 1 extendable kids bed and a crib/cot bed… plus, after he dismantled the beds and loaded them up. I gave him my dining table and 8 chairs, a computer table, a desk and an arm chair. The things I gave him were not going to make back to Scotland with me because the cost of moving them is too close to the cost of replacing them once I get over there… so this guy hit the junk-jackpot at my house.
Now we are fortunate to have six bedrooms but not so fancy that we all can’t snuggle up into just 3 of the bedrooms (actually that’s about normal around here) - We are fortunate enough to have a dining room but not so fancy as to feel we must have a table in it. And I am fortunate enough to be able to give my perfectly good junk away, but not to fancy to stand by the side of the road and offer it to perfect strangers. And you know, I’m happy with that.
In other news:
* We had a wonderful spring/Easter break but I can’t begin to tell you how nice it is to get the kids back to school (am I going to Mommy Hell for feeling that way?)
* I have been SO.FRIGGIN’.COLD all day long! Where is spring???
* Our blogger friend came for Easter and we had a lovely time. She started teaching the girls how to knit and she brought us a couple bags of Reeces Peanut Butter Cups which we made into cookies and for which I am thankful… and for which my hips are no longer speaking to this particular friend anymore!! Thanks for coming Kayla!
* Len just found a tick crawling up his arm *shudder*
* The ‘cat who is not really my cat but I am her human’ is not allowed back in the house after said tick discovery.
* I haven’t told her (the cat) we’re moving… she will just wake up on day and we will be gone.
* I feel no guilt about this.
* Yesterday I totalled up the value of all our possessions for an insurance form for our removals company… and now I know why we never have any money.
* Today I decided that I don’t want to pay 3% of of that value of all our possessions for insureance - so I am going to try and cut the declaration down to almost half what it is now - then cross all available apendages while my home is in transit.
* I rummaged though my old posts tonight looking for something for a friend and realised this use to be a fun blog to read… Thank you to all of you who have stuck around even though it is dull and boring lately.
* Len is sick and needs me to go baby him....
* I am going to bed now without proofing this - my resident proof reader is in bed sick so please email me (or leave a comment) with any corrections and I will fix them in the morning.
* Thank you all for loving me, just as I am....
